PA To Compensate Terror Victims In The Sum Of 62 Million Shekels

The PA (Palestinian Authority) and perpetrators of the terror attack in which three Israelis were killed on Route 443 (Jerusalem – Modi’in Highway) in 2001 will compensate the families in the amount of 62 million shekels. The Jerusalem District Court ruled.

The Jerusalem District Court ruled that the PA and the perpetrators of the attack that killed three Israeli Jews Route 443, compensates the plaintiffs in the amount of 62 million, the attack killed the couple Sharon and Yaniv Ben-Shalom and Doron Zvari HY”D. Two infants in the vehicle, Efrat Ben-Shalom and Shachar Ben Shalom, were spared.

This judgment is a continuation of the decision which was set by Judge Moshe Drori that the perpetrators are responsible for damages to the plaintiffs and that the PA is responsible also for damages to the plaintiffs under the law, both the solicitation and helping to carry out the attack.

The attack took place on August 25, 2001, on a motzei Shabbos. The plaintiffs were in the vehicle, returning from a family trip in Eilat to the center of the country.

The vehicle the attackers used pulled up alongside the victim’s vehicle and opened fire, killing the three adults in the vehicle. Their mom covered them, taking the bullets in her back, leaving the little ones, who were raised since by their aunt, their mother’s sister and her husband; Odelya and Moshe Ben-Shalom.

In determining the amount of the compensation, the court took many considerations into account, and finally ruled that punitive damages of 10 million NIS should be imposed for each of the three victims’ estates, 6 million NIS for each orphan and 5 million NIS for each of the parents of the victims.
