Margi Pushing Healthier Food Regulations – Degel MKs Concerned About Costs

The Knesset Education Committee headed by MK (Shas) Yaakov Margi observed International Diabetes Awareness Day in a discussion devoted to the healthy food regulations that had not yet been brought for re-approval by the Committee. During the hearing, Margi attacked MKs Moshe Gafne and Yaakov Asher, who are delaying approval of the food regulations, and says that their insensitivity prevents the regulations from being approved and that they will have to explain why they are neglecting their constituents.

Committee Chairman MK Yaakov Margi called on the Education Minister to resolve the “disgraceful issue” in the words of rejecting the approval of the regulations that monitor the quality of food in educational institutions, or alternatively place new regulations that deviate from today’s norm in yeshivos ketanos.

As noted, the regulations on food quality in educational institutions have yet to be approved by the Knesset Education Committee due to a revision submitted by MK Yaakov Asher, who claimed that the regulations would cause an increase in the prices of food provided to students and those who would bear the costs.

Margi on Tuesday morning 1 Teves said, “MK Yaakov Asher of Gafne’s party can ensure that costs are paid in a manner that will not be imposed on the parents, but it is easier for him to institute a revision that hinders supervision of the sale of healthy food throughout the education system. If MK Gafne wants to go, he can march the entire Education Ministry and Finance Ministry, but the opacity impedes approval of the regulations in the committee, and I call for the regulations to be passed even at the expense of the yeshivos ketanos.”

Margi added it is Asher and his colleagues who are responsible to explain to the tzibur why they are being neglected.
