Report: NYPD Killed 16 In 2012


nypdaA new report says 2012 saw an increase in the number of times NYPD officers fired their guns and the number of suspects they killed.

Officers intentionally fired their weapons in 45 incidents in 2012. That’s a 25 percent increase from the year before.

Sixteen suspects were killed last year compared to nine in 2011.

The report also notes that 13 officers were struck by gunfire. Only four were hit in 2011.

The numbers are found in an annual firearm discharge report that was made public on Tuesday.
