The Bais Yaakov School in Toronto is currently on lockdown. Sources tell YWN that police have surrounded a home on Bathurst and Lawrence, and there is a man with a rifle barricaded inside. The man may have been taken into custody, but police still have the area closed down.

A source inside the school inform YWN that all occupants in the building were told to get on the floor, and no one is being allowed to move.

UPDATE: Reports suggest that a man barricaded himself inside a home for a short time around 10:00 Thursday morning, though no injuries are reported.

Nearby schools were placed under a lockdown, however police say at no time were any students in danger.

Traffic is being diverted in both directions between Glen Rush and Chicoutimi, with no information on when lanes will reopen.

  1. Lubavitch Yeshiva is S.E. corner of Bathurst & Lawrence. One Bais Yaakov is on the north side of Lawrence, slightly east of Bathurst. The major Bais Yaakov is on the west side, slightly north of Lawrence. Naturally, this intersection is a major hub of Toronto’s frum community.

  2. When will OUR yeshivos update their security. WAKE UP!! We dont have to wait for something to happen R”L before we insist on common sense security. Fellow parents, PLEASE beg your child’s school to upgrade their security system (If they have one at all.)
