Most Presidential Candidates Hurry to Reveal their Finances

After Binyamin Ben-Eliezer dropped out of the presidential race due to the ongoing police investigation against him, who includes his failure to declare his assets, the other candidates were quick to do so.

Reuven Rivlin

He purchased a three bedroom apartment in the Yifei Nof area of Yerushalayim in 1973 for 220,000 shekels, where he has been living until today. He has no other real estate.

His assets include a retirement plan valued at 450,000 shekels and an investment portfolio of 300,000 shekels. His vehicle is valued at 60,000 shekels.

His monthly income consists of;

· 25,000 shekels net as a MK,

· 1,000 NIS monthly pension for his former service as a cabinet minister,

· 600 NIS monthly from the Israel Bar Association

· 2,500 NIS monthly from Bituach Leumi (retirement pension)

Dorit Dorner

She has a three bedroom apartment in the Beit HaKerem area of the capital in which she has been living there since 1974. It is on the third story and there is no elevator. She has a 2004 Volvo.

Her monthly income consists of;

· 35,000 NIS for periods of work as an IDF officer and Supreme Court justice

Dalia Itzik

Itzik used her Facebook page to tell the public that she and her husband live in a modest Jerusalem apartment which they purchased for 923,000 shekels in 2009. She explained they cashed their savings plans to free up the money to make the purchase. She adds last year they decided to sell it.

In her official declaration she reveals they own three apartments, two in Jerusalem and one on Ben-Gurion Blvd. in Tel Aviv. They have two vehicles, a 2008 Hyundai and a Mazda. They also report 160,000 NIS in jewelry.

Prof. Dan Shectman

He lives with his wife in a two family home that they built in Haifa in the 1970s, costing them 140,000 lira, valued today at 3 million shekels.

In addition the professor built a home for one of his children 20 years ago in Moshav Ein Emek, valued at 500,000 shekels. That home is rented out today.

The professor receives a monthly salary as a senior researcher at the Technion Institute with 40 years seniority of 35,000 NIS. His wife also has a home in the USA worth $190,000, purchased 10 years ago.

The professor has also been the recipient of many prestigious prizes, led by the Nobel Prize. The accumulated prize awards are 1.8 million shekels.

Prof. Shectman announced that if he is not elected president, he will weigh launching a political party and entering the political arena.

Meir Sheetrit

The candidate refused to divulge his personal assets to the public. His office reports his personal portfolio is worth 55 million NIS. His staff adds Sheetrit files all relevant papers with relevant government authorities annually as required.

Yisrael Hayom reports his Yavne home is valued at 2-3 million NIS and his personal wealth is estimated to be 57 million NIS.

In another matter related to the upcoming election, Shas announced faction members will be free to vote for whomever they wish in the election. The decision was announced by Shas’ Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael on Monday, 11 Sivan.

UPDATE: Responding to a public outcry, candidate Sheetrit announced on Monday 11 Sivan that he too will disclose his finances.
