NYC Jewish Community Leaders/Students to Champion Education Tax Credit in Albany on Tuesday

oulA delegation of community and Jewish day school leaders, as well as Jewish day school students, from Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and Staten Island, will appeal for passage of the Education Investment Incentives Act—also known as the Education Tax Credit—in Albany on Tuesday, March 24. The advocacy mission is organized by OU Advocacy-Teach NYS, the nonpartisan public policy arm of the Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization.

The top priority during the 2015 Legislative Session for OU Advocacy-Teach NYS is passing the Education Tax Credit. If passed, the Education Tax Credit could generate millions of dollars in scholarship aid to tuition-paying families. Tuesday’s advocacy mission is the fourth such delegation organized by OU Advocacy-Teach NYS in support of the1524 Education Tax Credit.

Members of Tuesday’s delegation will have lunch with legislators at 1:15 p.m. in Convention Center Meeting Room 2 and will be recognized on the Floor of the Assembly at 3:15 p.m.

OU Advocacy-Teach NYS has also scheduled meetings with members of the Assembly, the Senate, including the Senate leadership, and members of the Governor’s Administration. During the meetings, mission participants will urge their legislators to include the tax credit in the enacted State Budget.

“If passed, the Education Tax Credit would create a new funding stream for the Jewish day school community and the larger non-public school community that is critical for families. By easing the burden schools face when needing to provide scholarships to an ever-increasing pool of students, the Education Tax Credit would help every family with a child in non-public school, not just those on scholarship,” said Jake Adler, New York Policy Director for OU Advocacy-Teach NYS. “For this reason, we have mobilized the Jewish day school community throughout New York State to help get this bill passed.”
