Drunken Man Desecrates Queens Mosque

A drunk barged into a Queens mosque last night and shouted anti-Muslim slurs as he urinated on prayer rugs, cops and witnesses said.

Evening prayers were disrupted at the Iman Mosque on Steinway Street in Astoria when the unhinged man “came in with a beer bottle in his hands, clearly very intoxicated,” said Mustapha Sadouki, who was attending services.

“He fumbled over to our rugs where people were praying” and then committed the despicable desecration, Sadouki said,

The man, identified by cops as Omar Rivera, also allegedly shouted slurs, calling the worshippers “terrorists.”

Two men managed to subdue him. They put him a back room and called 911.

Cops took him to a hospital and later charged him with criminal trespass.

“He stuck up his finger and cursed at everyone,” said Sadouki, 43.

“No one can pray now because the rugs are completely soiled. It was disgusting.

“He calls us terrorists, yet he comes into our mosque and terrorizes other people.

“This is a true hate crime.”

  1. at least he was drunken. imagine he was sober, there would’ve been such an outcry. Muslims would never quite down! Those double standard wackos, after all that’s exactly what they have been and are doing all around the world to synagogues, churches and places of worship other than muslim.

  2. Reminds me of something… oh yeah, taking Jewish headstones to use a latrines, defecating in former Shuls and temples of other religions, etc. ad nauseum. And not due to drunkenness, but premeditated.

  3. I am so happy that you are giving us all of this great info about the problems that the Muslims are having, the cab stabbing and the drunk who came into a mosque. Really, you guys are superb. Keep up the great work and perhaps you will give us also some insights into the parsha of the week from the lovable Koran.

  4. I don’t want to play the blame game, but I think the muslims set someone up to do this to set out the “sympathy card”. They are devious and tricky and its hard to believe that suddenly someone vandalized a mosque.
Reading Time magazine last week, about Islamaphobia. they mentioned how muslims are hated and mistreated on college campuses. I am a college student on a secular college in NY and I certainly dont see hatred towards muslims.
The media doesnt provide us with the full story.

  5. As frum Jews we are all appalled when anyone does something like this since we have and continue to be victimized in the same way…especially in Islamic lands. No “house of worship” anywhere should be subjected to this. Having said that, it is sad that this becomes the reaction of some depraved individuals to the current Cordoba Mosque (notice I didn’t use the NEW politically correct name PARK51 – we all know what kind of “VICTORY MOSQUE” the name CORDOBA implies!!!!).
Still, this issue will not be resolved until the so-called mainstream Islam becomes AMERICANIZED. That is, if something is wrong you condemn it…even if it is done by “fellow Moslems”. You don’t find excuses for it. You also don’t keep silent…especially in the face of world celebrations in Islamic communities (even here) after and on 9/11. In American Islam there was deafening silence.
Well listen up…in the western world this is a crime. It is called “DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE TO HUMAN LIFE”.

  6. Not newsworthy. The muslims are the biggest crybabies in the world. They feel free to behead and terrorize anyone they don’t like but how dare anyone say or do anything to them! Big flipping deal?! Let them go wash the rugs no permanent damage was done. For some reason when ever a shul is vanadalized there’s always costly damage!!!

  7. what a terrible thing to happen to any house of worship, no matter whose it is. i am sure that if this happened in a shul or a yeshivah the comments above would have been much different and sympathetic.while i understand why the above commentators have not as a whole condemned the desecration, it is troubling none the less. as kosherkid stated, and as history has shown, we have been on the receiving end of desecration and hate-mongering (and yes i know how dangerous islamic fanatics are btw my uncle was on flight 93). when we forget what was done to us and revel in the wrong that was done to them, whoever the them are, we loose the lessons of kindness and empathy passed down from avraham avinu when he asked g-d to spare the righteous of sdom.and then our children who listen to us and read and want to emulate their parents will learn to do the same and we will be worse for it.

  8. This is addressed to baron, joe shmoe, kosherkid, lazerc, WellInformedYid, Your Sister and jpeditor.

Your sentiments are no different in character than those issued by white supremacists, the KKK and Aryan Nation . . . and even thousands of “good Germans,” who while not Nazis themselves, had no problem standing by in the early years of the Third Reich watching the tightening noose of discrimination against those “troublemaking” Jews. The fact that you are Jews expressing such things makes it worse, not better.

My son-in-law’s mother, a solidly frum woman, summed up your comments with one word: “Heartbreaking.” Omein
