PM Prohibits Chief Rabbis From Visiting Ramallah

Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita and Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita wished to visited Ramallah to meet with an advisor to PA (Palestinian Authority) Abu Mazen. The reason given is the aide to the PA leader denies the connection to the Kosel by the Jewish People.

According to the Channel 1 News report, the meeting was to have been held weeks ago during the visit of Trump advisor Jason Greenblatt. The rabbonim were to have met with Abu Mazen’s advisor on Religious Affairs Mohammed el-Abash. The time and venue in Ramallah was set but it was canceled by PM Netanyahu.

The reasons given was Abu Mazen’s failure to condemn the terror attack in which border policewoman Hadas Malka HY”D was murdered near Shar Shechem and el-Abash’s statements denying Am Yisrael’s connection to the Kosel.

When asked to comment, a spokesman for the Chief Rabbinate explained he was not aware of such events.

  1. Since when does the PM decide who the Rabbanut can talk to if they are as independent of the government as they claim. They want it both ways. If they work for the government, then Bibi can tell them when to simply keep quiet and render any opinions with respect to the laws of Gerus, egalitarian prayer on the plaza of the kosel or other political issues where they claim authority.
