Hagaon HaRav Yaakov Meir Shechter Is Traveling To Uman For Rosh Hashanah

HaGaon HaRav Yaakov Meir Shechter Shlita is planning to spend Rosh Hashanah in Uman, joining tens of thousands of mispallalim who are spending Rosh Hashanah at the tziyun of the tzaddik Rav Nachman ZT”L.

According to the B’Chadrei Chareidim report, Rav Schecter, who in past years did not travel to Uman, will not be davening in the main Kloiz minyan but his kehilla will be making its own minyan.

Rav Meir is expected to fly in a private plane on Thursday, 23 Elul, after expressing his wish to travel to Uman for Yomtov. The last time he was there for Yomtov was more than 30 years ago, in 5749.

Those in the know explain that thousands of Rav Shechter’s followers will be heading to Uman as a result of his decision to do so.

  1. I assume that R’ Shteinman shlit”a and R’ Chaim Kanievsky shlit”a would also go if they were in better health. They are certainly gedolei hador and so of course they would go.

  2. Crazy,
No comment. There is nothing wrong with going once here and there (as a chosid) – BUT when the reason is primarily because its the ‘thing-to-do’ and, becomes a yearly Woodstock gathering, then it is when it is an issue.

Rav Shechter last went when it was really difficult to go..

  3. Please double check your info, I was told my a family member of the Rov that he has only been to Uman once, and that it wasn’t for RH, but during the winter.

  4. @Gaon, with what Daas/knowledge are you saying that Uman becomes a woodstock gathering? You may be misperceiving what happens by Rebbe Nachmans Rosh Hashana due to some videos going around. This year, there will be aproximtely 80,000 yidden from Israel, Europe, Flatbush, Monsey, Lakewood, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and Monroe attending (if I missed your city, please forgive me).
These 80,000 yidden are spending thousands of dollars to spend rosh hashana with the Tzadik to be Mamlich Hakodosh Baruch Hu on the highest level.
The numbers of people going to the Tzadik for Rosh Hashana are increasing exponentially every year. 2 years ago there were 50K yidden. Rebbe Nachman doesn’t discriminate between chasid, litvak, sfardi, israeli, chabad, yeshivish, modern orthodox, etc…the prerequisite for going to Uman is having a Neshama, and the Tzadik goes to work, straightening out all the crookedness in your heart and neshama, and lighting a flame and a huge emanating ohr, so you can serve Hashem with a crazy fire and simcha, the whole year. Not just Rosh Hashana through Yom Kippur.

To address your point about the woodstock, everybody needs tikkunim and hamtakas haddinim (sweeting of judgement) on Rosh Hashana.

I do agree with your point that, potentially, if one goes w/o knowing why he is going Uman, although he should still go anyway, he may be missing out on the eitzos and Torah that Rebbe Nachman revealed to this holy generation.
