VIDEO: Senator Joseph Lieberman Addresses The First Israel Congress For Judaism And Democracy

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

The First Israel Congress for Judaism and Democracy began on Sunday, 26 Shevat, lasting two days, ending on Monday, 27 Shevat. The venue has attracted a number of prominent speakers, including US Senator Joseph (Joe) Lieberman, former Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi HaRav Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita, Supreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, Israel Supreme Court President Judge Dalia Dorner, and the leader of Israel’s Druse community, Sheikh Moufak Tarif.

Following is a video containing the interview with Senator Lieberman in which he says the matter of who is a Jew is a “bit dated but still relevant”.

Lieberman feels that the only way to move ahead however is to address the key issues, as well as the Kotel, head-on, and while it may get a bit rowdy, it is the only road to progress. Regarding Shabbos, which the senator says is important, citing he too is Shomer Shabbos, but adds in a democracy there must be respect for those who do not keep the Shabbos too. Once again, he stresses addressing the key issues directly, confident this is the only formula that will yield results.

  1. Will he darshan on why he doesn’t say “Shelo Assani Ishaw”?

Why would he go to this anti-Frum organization’s conference?

  2. RE: “Why would he go to this anti-Frum organization’s conference” Because Lieberman is himself ” anti-Frum”. All his political life he was fighting against Torah based values.
