Peleg to Renew Protests On Thurday After Punishment for Draft Dodger

IDF prosecutors succeeded in getting the sentence of Peleg draft dodger, Meir Brodiansky, increased from 20 days, which was originally the sentence handed out by the Yaffo military court, to 45 days. Brodiansky will serve his term with an eight day vacation for Pesach built in.

Menachem Stauber, who served as the Defense Attorney for the defendant told Israeli media that in reality, Brodiansky would only serve 34 days, due to the general amnesty that is taking effect on Yom Ha’atzmaut.

The judge made note that Brodiansky did not live up to his responsibilty of filling out a request for deferral, and therefore viewed this case in a strict manner.

During the sentencing hearing, the prosecutors asked for imprisonment lasting 150 days. Had they succeeded in obtaining such a large sentence, it was expected that members of the Peleg faction would take to the streets and block roads right before Pesach.

The new Moetzes of the Peleg / Bnei Torah Party announced that: “Due to the criminal punishment that was given to imprisoned Yeshiva Bochur Meir Broiansky, we will be stepping up the fight. Tomorrow, (Thursday) we will gather in protest in various locations that will be publicized in the near future.”

“We will continue to fight this terrible plan to bring the Charedim into the IDF with all our might,” said a spokesperson for the Peleg.

As YWN reported, Meir Brodiansky, a Yeshiva Bochur affiliated with the Peleg was arrested at a checkpoint on Highway 90 near Maale Adumim during a routine inspection two weeks ago. When it was determined by police that he is AWOL from the IDF, he was arrested and handed over to military police.

Meir is a Talmid at Yeshiva Kol Torah – a Peleg affiliated Yeshiva. He is a grandson of Rav Yitzchock Yeruchim Bordiansky, who is a Mashgiach in the Yeshiva.

  1. “Meir is a Talmid at Yeshiva Kol Torah – a Peleg affiliated Yeshiva.”
For the umpteenth time, Yeshivas Kol Torah is NOT NOT NOT a Peleg-affiliated yeshiva.
Why do you keep repeating this lie?????!!!!!

  2. I request a listing of names of all those who participate in violent protests, blocking the streets to prevent innocent people from traveling to wherever they need to go. This list should be considered by anyone with daughters, to let them remain single, and thus eliminated from the gene pool of The Torah world. These are not bnei Torah. They are thugs with black hats, a true embarrassment to Klal Yisroel.

  3. A draft dodger is, for example, someone who fakes a disability or pretends to be eligible for an exemption (e.g. learning in yeshiva) when that is not the case.

Someone who “thumbs his nose” at the army and says I refuse to serve in your army because I don’t approve of your policies, is a “draft resistor”.

The former is a coward. The latter is brave (and perhaps foolhardy), a dissident and/or a conscientious objector, and is arguably protected by international human rights law.

  4. Some people are proposing to take frum boys into the army in frum regiments. You should know that it’s a shtus. The army is made לכתחילה for the purpose of changing the minds of the boys in the army. It’s a statement they made long ago. It’s very long. And it’s only a trick that they are using now to deceive the frummah into entering the army. The truth is Am Yisroel has to keep out of the army. We have to maintain our privileged as all the countries give, rabbinical students are patur from the draft, exempt from the draft. Let’s continue to fight for it, and not to yield, and not to listen to the מסיתים ומדיחים who are talking about frum regiments for frum boys.
