Rabbi Yona Metzger Says He Is Still Prohibited From Wearing His Homburg And Frock In Jail


Some two weeks ago, Minister of Public Security Gideon Erdan wrote to Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita regarding a solution to the regulation prohibiting prisoners in the Torah Wing from wearing fedoras and jackets. However, it appears the prohibiting still stands.

The weekly BaKehilla Magazine carries a report by Tzvi Yaaobson on Thursday, which states he met this week with one of the prisoners, Rabbi Yona Metzger, who stated he is still prohibited from wearing his fedora and frock.

Erdan stated at first, they will be permitted on Friday and Shabbos, and during the week, they will be limited to the Beis Medrash for davening. Eventually, new garments marked by the Israel Prison Service which will replace a prisoner’s own garment and fedora for Torah Wing prisoners.

  2. besides taking away his hat and frock, they should take away the title, “rabbi”! He is certainly the worst example of what is a rabbi!
