Chevron Yeshiva Forces ‘First Year’ Bochurim To Sign Contract Ensuring Good Behavior – Will Not Attend Hafganos

Following a recent incident involving Bochurim of the Chevron Yeshiva, students in the newest year, Va’ad Aleph, have been ordered to personally report to the Rosh Yeshiva’s house and sign a contract committing to good behavior, as a prerequisite for continuing their studies in the Yeshiva. The students have been instructed to report to the Rosh Yeshiva before the end of Bein Hazmanim.

Bechadrei Charedim reported that all of the first year students received a letter stamped with the seal of Maran Hagaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, that said: “All students from the first year, who wish to continue on to the second year of studies, must undergo another complete entrance process to continue in the Yeshiva.”

A significant portion of the students received phone calls from an unlisted number that played a message instructing them to appear before the Rosh Yeshiva at his home at specific times prior to the end of the vacation period.

So far, eight of the students, of the 80 who have already appeared before the Rosh Yeshiva, were not accepted for the second year.

Among the items listed in the contract that the students were forced to sign were the conditions that the students daven three times a day with the Yeshiva Minyan, that they attend all Sedarim and Shiurim, and that they will not participate in any protests – frequently organized by the Peleg Yerushalmi.

  1. Do the “protests” refer to joining in the infamous Peleg protests, or is it in reference to the Chevron Yeshiva protest when the bachurim didn’t show for seder in definance to the RY last zman?

  2. Yashir koach. They’re supposed to be sitting and learning, in part to protect Klal Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael, not goofing off or milling around in the street getting water-hosed and giving chareidim a bad name. If the Peleg rabbanim are so intent on protesting what they see as injustice, let them leave the kids in bais medrash and go out and get fire-hosed and arrested themselves.

  3. Schools throughout the world have been attempting for centuries to get adolescent post-secondary students to focus on their studies. This is an issue in all cultures, suggesting that teenager scholars are inherently easy to distract from studies. One wishes the management of the yeshiva success, but realistically that is a hard age group to manage.

  4. Thank you Rabbonim for Finally Taking steps to Assure Kavod Bnei Torah And Derech Eretz, to ensure Bochrim Behave with dignity and Learn in Bais Medrash, not roam around the Gutters looking for Action Riot in Streets blocking innocent people in Buses and Cars.
ANGER is a Bad Middah as Torah makes clear, yet Peleg Rabbis incite ANGER And HATRED to rile up Boys to Riot, while Peleg Rabbis And Their Kids Eat Chulent at Home and Count Cash!

  5. Peleg Rabbi Leaders And Their Kids and Grandkids need to Go Themselves Out Rioting in Streets, and Stop Inciting Anger In Bochrim making them Leave Bais Medrash Bittul Zman to riot. Thank you Chevron Yeshiva for Protecting Kavod Torah!

  6. This all started because some big time donors threatened to hold back if the yeshivas dont crack down the hefkerkiet and hafganos.

  7. Wow, that’s a really tough contract- essentially, it states that a yeshiva bachur must donwhat a yeshiva bachur should be doing. Good for them!

  8. Who knew that a somewhat respectable news publication like YWN can report something so far from the truth.
    This is a real embarrassment!
For those who are unaware, there was a massive boycott in Yeshivas Chevron as a form of protest against one of the Roshei Yeshiva Shlita.
The Rosh Yeshiva Shlita was attempting to change the way the Yeshiva was being managed. As opposed to the more relaxed and independent environment that was the norm in Chevron, he wanted to impose tougher rules, with less freedoms.
The bochurim didn’t appreciate the change in approach, and arranged a massive boycott which led to close to 1,200 bochurim learning first seder in the dining room or nearby shuls as opposed to the Beis Medrash, as a form of protest.
This lasted for a few days, and put tremendous pressure on the Rosh Yeshiva Shlita to give up his efforts to change the face of the Yeshiva, which was following the more independent and free approach for decades.
This contract was a last ditch effort to try and buy the loyalty of the first year bochurim.
The hafganos mentioned are referring to the boycott that took place at the end of the last zman.

Boruch Hashem, this story has a happy ending, and although only 80 out of the 150+/- bochurim in the first year actually signed the strange contract, the Rosh Yeshiva Shlita gave up his efforts to change the Yeshiva, and peace has been restored to the walls of Chevron.
YWN, I would recommend that you get your facts straight before posting something so far away from the truth.
