Unmitigated Gall! Yediot Correspondent Blasts Chareidi Families

The incitement against the chareidim in Eretz Yisrael continues. Yediot Achronot columnist Ra’anan Shaked raised a storm on Twitter when he attacked the chareidi families who were traveling with their children in Tel Aviv during bein hazmanim.

In a since deleted tweet, Shaked wrote: “Well, what’s the matter with chareidi families that go around in Tel Aviv with children of all ages – including toddlers – at one o’clock at night? Let someone stop them on the side and ask for a parent’s license”, intimating they should have approval before permitted to have children.

Responding to people who were furious at his tweet, Shaked replied: “Yes, [with these chareidim] it is parenthood that does not recognize the child’s needs and its responsibility for a child’s welfare.”

One person on twitter named Uriya responded to Shaked: “Can you be more patronizing or bloated?? Do you know how parenting should look? You issue licenses to order?? You’re the one who understands the mind of a child?”.

Ari Vidar wrote: “I would also require a parenting license from parents who expose their children to all kinds of games / screens / and scenes that do not suit them … Maybe we’ll start with you Ra’anan, what do you think”, referencing to the non-frum community and their standards of what a child may see or be exposed to.

Another named David Turnheim tweeted in response to Shaked: “It seems to me that it bothers you more that the chareidi families are walking around in Tel Aviv than the late hour of the day. You are not the type that really cares for the welfare of the chareidi child but it appears their presence enrages you.”

As noted, the hate-provoking comments caused widespread criticism on social networks, demanding that Shaked apologize for his blatant and erroneous statements.

  1. I was in Yerushalyim last week. The bein hazmanim that I saw was a packed kosel . Every night till midnight young kids being held by their mothers hand . Strollers being pushed by fathers. Families arriving even at midnight. It was beautiful. Mi k’amcha yisroel!!

  2. BEFORE WE WORRY ABOUT ANTISEMITISM IN THE WORLD, WE SHOULD FOCUS ON ISRAELI ANTISEMITISM. WHEN A HEBREW SPEAKING GOY SEES A FRUM YID IT REMINDS HIM OF WHAT HE’S THROWN AWAY

  3. Deep down they know the religious are living the true meaningful life so they need to attack them. This is history repeating itself.
Like this is the BIGGEST problem in Israel and the Arab terror doesn’t exist!

  4. The esteemed columnist made a simple tactical error.
A slight shift in wording his article would have prevented any backlash against him.
He should have referred to the Chareidi parents as “extremists.” Too extreme regarding the number of children they decide to have. Using the word “extremist” would elicit the support of many, even frum, websites. Especially those websites that are always crusading against (what they define as) “extremists” and “extremism.”

  5. Why should he apologize? He is showing the true face of the haters of Torah. It is important for Torah Jews to see and hear this. This is especially important now that they are an endangered species. They used to be a majority in Israel and now they are maybe 3%-6% of the population. Of course they still control a great deal of the powerful institutions in Israel but not for much longer. They have no heirs. Having concentrated their live on physical pleasure, most do not have children and the few children they have produced do not burn with the same hatred as the parents.

  6. Parent licence????
    Heres how you obtain one….
1)By committing to have only 1 or 2 and a dog
2)Buying your kids phones with Internet
3)Exposing your kids to everything secular.
4)Tell them to hate religious and love Arabs.
    4)Dress how you want.
    5)Eat what you want.
