Mir Kollel Yungerleit Complain Over Severe Parking Crisis in Beis Yisrael Area

Sunday, Rosh Chodesh Elul, marked the beginning of the new zman for avreichim around Eretz Yisrael. This includes the many whose days are spent in a beis medrash in Mir Yeshiva, located in the Beis Yisrael neighborhood of Yerushalayim.

Many avreichim arrived to begin the new zman and learned there is a significant shortage in parking. They complained to Kikar Shabbos News, citing today, the situation is worse than usual as a great deal of construction and renovations are being conducted in the area of the yeshiva. In the past, many placed their vehicles on the dirt lot by Kiryat Shomrei Emunim.

Now, one can see the many vehicles driven by avreichim circling the area, though the narrow streets and alleys, looking for a parking space. Complaining to the news, the avreichim add that many received summonses for parking illegally, insisting the city should be “more considerate” to their plight and the lack of parking due to all the construction in the area.

The poor yungerleit can’t find parking within a block radius of their yeshiva. So…. let’s knock down house all around and give them their due parking spots!!! What’s the big deal!

  2. Gevalt!!! What a tragedy….Maybe these future talmeidei chachamim will figure out that parking has become an issue for everyone in yerushalayim as a result of new development and more aggressive police enforcement of the parking rules. Time to call Uber, or even better, use a bike or mass transit and help reduce congestion and pollution. Tikun Olam can be a Mir priority along with those darn reform and conservative yidden.

  3. What shaychus does a kollel yungerman have to a car?

Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach rode the bus.

Did Rav Schach have a car?

    The Chazon Ish?

    Rav Steinman?

    The Chofetz Chaim?

    זצוקללה”ה

    להבחל”ח

    Does Rav Chaim Kanievsky?

    Rav Nissim Karelitz?

In the old days there were not many cars in ארץ ישראל. Now it seems there may be too many.

There are good reasons for the existence of mass transit and public transportation.

There is a reason why the Y’lem light rail was was built, and for a new train line to Y’lem from outside.

Also, the Mir runs its own buses which bring many there.

Private cars are luxury items and they need to be limited at times.

  4. While learning in Mir in the 70s, there wasn’t a yungerman who owned a car. We used the bus, #3 from Mattersdorf, Kiryat Itri, Kiryat Tzanz, etc. I should have rachmanus on people who can’t find a place to park? Cry on someone else’s shoulder.

  5. oh nebech, the avreichem now have cars. the avreichem of old did not have cars, hence no problem. israel has good public transportation. tell them that if they were driving a tank in the IDF, they would not have the problem of finding a parking place.

  6. band cars! It’s already way too congested!Either take public transportation,or the special buses to hear the yeshiva or walk!

  7. What’s wrong with leaving a little earlier, parking in an outlying neighborhood and taking a bus? Those of us in the working world deal with these kind of disruptions and adjust our commute accordingly……if we unfortunately arrive late we make up the time to our employer….The improvements are for the benefit of the neighborhood and the yeshiva, so these are yisurim that are b”h small compared to what could be…..
