Elad: Porush & Gafne Meet in Last Effort at Agreement

With little hope of agreement remaining, in a last effort, Degel Hatorah national chairman MK Moshe Gafne met with Mayor Yisrael Porush of Shlomei Emunim to determine if agreement might still be possible in the upcoming mayoral race. Porush arrived at the Degel office in Bnei Brak on erev Shabbos morning for the meeting.

It is also reported that the head of Shlomei Emunim, Deputy Minister Meir Porush, has informed Degel in a letter to Gafne that he will be summoning Degel to a din torah in the matter.

Degel Hatorah however continues insisting there is a rotation agreement with Shlomei Emunim, and it is Degel’s turn this time around, insisting that Shlomei Emunim must honor the agreement.

In a recorded message send to Elad residents by Mayor Porush before Shabbos, the mayor tried to explain Degel Hatorah was being called to a din torah. The recording stated, “This is Yisrael Porush speaking, the city’s mayor. In these days during the month of rachamim and slichos, it is important for all of us to continue maintaining a united, quiet and tranquil Elad, as is customary among Jews who observe Torah and Mitzvos. We request the matter of the city’s leadership be brought to a beis din or arbitration, in line with Torah and Halacha.

“I personally ask every resident of the city, please, let us daven that we will refrain from disputes and quarrels, we will be patient for the city and for its unity.

“In the afternoon, the Shlomi Emunim faction issued an unusual announcement in the chareidi political landscape that it is asking Degel Hatorah to appear before beis din or arbitration. Shlomi Emunim responded to the growing trend in Degel Hatorah to demand an agreement in the city of Elad, according to which this time the candidate of Degel Hatorah would be elected mayor.”

In the meantime, it appears Degel Hatorah continues discussions surrounding a viable candidate to replace Porush, consulting with the party’s Gedolei Torah. Degel officials admit that talks towards reaching agreement with Shlomei Emunim have failed.

Regarding Shlomei Emunim’s message, calling Degel to a din torah, Degel officials continue insisting there is a rotation agreement in place that must be honored, stating clearly in this election, Degel will run and not Shlomei Emunim.

  1. daas toireh will bring daas toireh to a din toireh; unless they pick a rav from beit hillel they may not get tzeddek. they may find out the passuk really reads kessef, kessef tirdof

  2. its time for the truth, i assume you have finally come to the realization that lying requires a very good memory

hashchasah only for the eidah ha’raah; not a member. i do support for malchus hazadon

of course i turned down kesef; i was in a position where the amount of kessef i was offered is what could only dream of

pork of any sort is not kosher; i was never offered political pork. BH, i was not a political figure
