JNF and the US Embassy in Israel held a memorial ceremony in memory of those who perished in the September 11, 2001 tragedy at the memorial in the Arazim Valley in Jerusalem, in the presence of the US ambassador to Israel, Daniel Friedmann.

US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman said: “Seventeen years ago, on a normal day like this, with a blue sky, a nation underwent a tremendous tragedy when about 3,000 people were killed in the barbaric attacks of September 11. Dear families, it is hard to imagine the endless pain you feel to this day. We are here together, the United States and Israel to prevent such disasters from happening in the future. We will not forget nor forgive.

“We are working together to ensure peace for our children. We are working on many paths to appease Israel and the Palestinians in order to ensure security, peace and prosperity.

“The transfer of the embassy to Jerusalem is the deepening of relations between Israel and the United States and our commitment to our true friendship.”

KKL-JNF Deputy Chairman Yair Lotstein said, “We stand here today in the only memorial monument outside the United States to commemorate all those who perished, the thousands who were killed and wounded on this sad day. We are here to pay tribute to the firefighters and rescuers who sacrificed their lives to save lives. We must unite our forces in the struggle against the forces of evil to prevent such incidents from happening.

The Twin Monument is located in the Arazim Valley and offers a magnificent view of the Jerusalem Mountains and the Arazim Valley. The monument, which is 9 meters high, was designed by Israeli artist Eliezer Weishoff and architect Yechiel Cohen. At its base are the remains of the Twin Towers, from which the US Flag is raised in the shape of a memorial flame.

This is the first memorial site outside of New York that reflects the values shared by the United States, Israel and the entire free world for freedom and against terrorism and is the only place outside the United States where the names of all those killed are commemorated.
