Court Sentences Terrorist Who Plotted To Murder Netanyahu & Barkat


The Jerusalem District Court sentenced the defendant Muhammad Rashada to 11 years in prison for offenses related to assisting the enemy during wartime, acts of terror, espionage and conspiracy to commit murder.

Publication of details of the case is prohibited with the exception of the following:

Muhammad Jamal Rashda Born 1988, a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem, was convicted of conspiracy to assist the enemy during wartime, espionage, and conspiracy to commit murder. The Jerusalem District Court sentenced him to 11 years in prison and 8 months suspended sentence.

The defendant was convicted as part of a plea bargain that along with terrorists from abroad, they planned terrorist attacks against a variety of targets, including attacks on senior figures; Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and former Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

It was also revealed that Muhammad Rashada planned terrorist attacks against buildings belonging to the American Consulate and a delegation of Canadian representatives residing in Jerusalem in order to “train PA forces in the West Bank”.

Muhammad Rashada was also convicted of carrying out preliminary steps to collect intelligence about the targets against which he planned to carry out attacks, at the instruction of the terrorist operative from Syria.

Attorney Shachar Malul, of the Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office, said that “the sentence expresses the severity of the offenses committed by the defendant, which can harm state security and the delicate fabric of life in Israel. The State Prosecutor’s Office will continue to act with determination to bring to justice all those who attempt to harm the security of the State of Israel and its residents ”
