Peleg Yerushalmi Concerned With Planned Demolition Of Elad Talmid Torah

The Israel Lands Authority this week is expected to remove the Darchei Talmid Torah named after HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach ZT”L, which was established on Shimon Ben Shetach Street in Elad. The building was constructed without obtaining the necessary permits. The talmid torah consists of a number of caravan homes which were assembled at a cost of close to NIS 1 million.

Mayor Yisrael Porush warned askanim of Peleg Yerushalmi in advance, not to place the caravans as they did, but according to City Hall, the warnings were ignored. This week, the Civil Administration is expected to carry out the demolition orders to clear the area.

Askanim on Sunday turned to the land administration asking to postpone the demolition until they can find an alternate site for the caravans. The matter will be adjudicated by a court on Sunday.

City Hall supports efforts to delay the move rather than see the units destroyed. City officials tried to get a postponement of a number of months, albeit, without success.

It is reported Mayor Porush warned the askanim that if they placed caravans as they did, it would elicit a harsh response from the government agency, and this is what occurred.
