Israel Plans To Close UNRWA Schools In Jerusalem Beginning Next School Year

Israel is planning to cancel UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine) school permits beginning the next school year, 2019-2020, Chadashot News reported on motzei Shabbos.

This pertains to schools in Arab areas of Jerusalem, as well as throughout Yehuda and Shomron. UNRWA receives most of its budget from donor nations including the USA. It is a United Nations-affiliated organization.

Israel has decided to follow the US’ lead, as US President Trump has announced cutting $300 million from UNRWA, which led to former Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat working to expel UNRWA from the capital as well as taking over, bringing in Jerusalem Municipality services into Shuafat, towards Jerusalem assuming authority in the areas previously controlled by UNRWA.

Barkat decided to bring an end to the ‘refugee’ myth that was being perpetrated by the UN agency, insisting they residents are residents of the capital and as such, UNRWA was being ousted. The UN and the PA (Palestinian Authority) both prefer perpetuating the refugee myth to show the international community how Israel has displaced Arabs from their homes.

  1. Ironically, in Israeli schools and universities the same myth is being perpetuated. One would expect the Israelis to take seriously those who lie about Israel and spread false propaganda in their own institutions.
