Ashdod’s Mayor Lasri Comes Under Fire By Chareidim At A Chasunah

While representatives of Yahadut Hatorah in Ashdod are maintaining a civil tone towards Mayor Dr. Yechiel Lasri, remaining silent in the wake of significant Chilul Shabbos, the chareidi tzibur does not appear as forgiving.

As the mayor left a wedding on Tuesday night, a spontaneous mini protest took place around the Mayor as dozens of persons shouted at him, including shouts of “מחלליה מות יומת”, in protest of growing Chilul Shabbos in the city.

Lasri was embarrassed and did not know how to respond to the anger of the chareidi protestors. Ezra Shor, a representative of the Pittsburgh Chassidim, who will enter the city council in about a year within the framework of the internal rotation agreements, was quick to respond and protect the mayor from the group.

One of those present at the spontaneous demonstration reportedly told Kikar Shabbos News: “He does not have a drop of shame … It is not possible that after he tramples the Shabbos so defiantly, he will ask to be accepted with honor in the chareidi community. What is there silence of the representatives? We are not going to be silent.”

It should be noted that Lasri himself remains silent, and as he did on the eve of the elections, and he does not talk to the media.
