The Chief Rabbinate of Israel and Gedolei Yisrael throughout the generations have prohibited visiting Har Habayis because of transgressing a prohibition that is punished by karess.

On Thursday morning, March 14, 2019, secular Jews affiliated with the left-wing Peace Now organization protested while carrying signs that if Jews continue visiting Har Habayis, it will lead to bloodshed. While these people are clearly not motivated by halacha or fear of karess, they do seem to be of the opinion that the increased frequency of conflict between Muslims and Jews on the holiest site in the world will lead to bloodshed.

In a related matter, an attorney from the Honenu organization reported on Thursday morning that to Jews, a minor and an adult, were detained by police while visiting the holy site.
