Motzei Shabbos News Round-Up From Israel


Hundreds of Gazans participated in the weekly violent protests along the Gaza border in a number of locations. As is their custom, the protestors threw improvised explosive devices, Molotov cocktails, hand grenades, and stones at Israeli security forces. The IDF responded with crowd-dispersing ammunition according to the rules of engagement set down by the IDF.

Thousands of Gazans also protested against Hamas leadership and the cost of living inside the strip. Hamas militants fought the protestors who had blocked roadways in Deir al-Balach, Khan Unis, and Borij. The protestors also burnt tires and got into physical altercations with Hamas militants. Local sources have said that Hamas militants have attempted to subdue the protestors by using violence and clubbing them with sticks and bats and using live ammunition. Hamas has arrested numerous protestors and initiated a blockade in the area of the protests. Hamas has also arrested numerous journalists who documented the incidents.

A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in Yaffo over Shabbos. Police opened an investigation into the incident but said that the background for the shooting was criminal in nature.

A 64-year-old woman was killed and a 19-year-old woman was moderately injured in a motor vehicle accident that took place on Highway 4 near the Pal Yam intersection between two cars. According to the police investigation the accident transpired when one of the cars entered into an intersection while the light was red.

A 70-year-old woman was moderately injured after she was hit by a motorcycle on Ben Zvi Boulevard in Netanya on Shabbos. Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah EMS teams treated the woman and the motorcycle driver who was lightly injured.

A 30-year-old man was seriously injured while riding a horse on David Hamelech Boulevard in Lod. He was treated at the sign by MDA and UH volunteers before being sent to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.

A 30-year-old man was stabbed in Beit Shemesh on Shabbos and treated by UH and MDA teams He was taken to hospital in an intensive care ambulance in moderate condition.

A three-year-old choked on cranberries in Ashdod on Motzei Shabbos and was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Maxim Kolga, who was the United Hatzalah volunteer EMT who was the first responder on scene said: “According to family members of the infant the child had choked while eating cranberries. I began CPR on the child and continued until the ambulance arrived. The ambulance took the child to the hospital while continuing CPR. The child was in serious condition.”

Abu Dis resident Atta Alian, was one of the people killed in the two Friday shootings in New Zealand. Alian was a software engineer in his 30s and was visiting the country with his father, Dr. Muhammed Alian.

Muhammed was injured in the shooting as the two were praying when the shooting occurred. Muhammed is in serious condition in the intensive care unit in a local hospital. The shootings claimed the lives of 49 people while injuring another 20.

Alian is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter.
