Motzei Shabbos News Round-Up From Israel


A 24-year-old Palestinian man was killed on Friday during the weekly protests at the Gaze border. Some 6,000 Gazans protested and 30 of them were injured. Some of the violent protesters threw explosives, fire bombs, and stones, at Israeli security personnel.

As part of the cease-fire agreement with Hamas, Israel allowed Palestinian fisherman to sail up to 12 nautical miles away from the Gazan shore in order to fish on Friday. The navy said that they would be enforcing the newly expanded limit strongly, and three fishermen were arrested when there boat past the boundary. Following an interrogation the three fishermen were released and returned to Gaza.

A two-year-old boy drowned in a vacation bungalow in Tzefat on Shabbos. He was treated at the scene by United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom (MDA) personnel and transported to Ziv hospital where medical teams have been fighting for his life since this incident that occurred on Shabbos afternoon. The boy is intubated and sedated and in critical condition. According to Dr. Weiner who heads the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the boy’s condition is very serious and unstable. “We hope that his condition will stabilize and that we can run the tests needed to determine if there will be any lasting damage. We are hopeful that will happen in the coming days.”

MK Betzalel Smotrich has been in touch over the past few days with outgoing Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked in order to ask her advice with regards to how to handle the coalition discussions between his National Union party (2 mandates) and Netanyahu. Smotritch is vying for the Justice Ministry and has asked Shaked for help in negotiation for the proper budgets and understanding the Ministry better. Shaked confirmed to Ynet News that the conversations  have been taking place and that she has been assisting Smotritch to understand the Ministry better.

The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement that said that the illegal building taking place in Khan al-Ahmar will be forcibly evacuated in the near future. The illegal settlement, which is inhabited by the Bedouin tribe of the Jihalin family, is still in existence even though the court had previously ordered it’s evacuation five previous times. The State requested a deferral for the evacuation reasoning that a new government has not been formed yet. The High Court of Justice granted the deferral, marking this the sixth time that the illegal town has been saved from destruction.

A weaponized detonator of a rocket from Gaza was found by a child in the center of Sderot over Shabbos. The young boy who found the explosive device brought it to the Chabad Rabbi of his shul. The Rabbi immediately called for help and left the premises with the boy in tow. Police sappers arrived and luckily no injuries were reported.

Five people were lightly injured when a Magen David Adom ambulance carrying a patient to Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva was involved in an accident with a private car and a pedestrian on Tuviyahu Boulevard in the city.

The  ambulance was carrying a patient and flipped over after it struck a car. Other MDA teams were called in to treat the original patient as well as the medical team from the ambulance who were injured in the incident.

A 23-year-old was seriously injured and another young person was moderately injured on Highway 6400 in a motor vehicle accident between Upper Nazareth and Reineh. The two were transported to Rambam Hospital in Haifa for further care.

10 people were injured and suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a  hostel on Ach”ai Eilat Street in Kiryat Bialik.

Terrorists threw molotov cocktails at cherry orchards in Kfar Etzion on Sahbbos morning. Ephraim Somech, the head of security for the Kibbutz said: “We noticed the molotov cocktails thrown at the greenhouses where the orchards are early on Shabbos morning. The netting around the trees was torn and we found the bottles, some with accelerant still in them. Thankfully none of the bottles exploded and there was no fire at the scene.”

In another miraculous event, a bus caught fire in Givat Eda on Shabbos but no one was in it. Firefighters were called to the scene and put out the blaze before any injuries occurred.

As is the custom every year around Shavuos, Israel was hit with a wave of thousands of jellyfish that have begun nesting near the eastern shores of the Mediterranean. The jellyfish appeared on the beaches of Haifa over Shabbos and thousands washed up on the shore and died there. Last year, the Jellyfish were very scarce around the country. However, based on this past Shabbos, they have returned in a massive wave for the upcoming swimming season.

  2. Why are we still supplying Gaza and transferring funds from Qatar to Hamas ,when these riots and invasion attempts are still happening??!
