The cabinet on Sunday approved a NIS 750 million cut in government spending towards freeing the necessary funds required to make payment to 43,000 Holocaust survivors as per the recommendations of the Dorner Commission. (See earlier YWN report HERE)

Earlier in the month, retired Supreme Court Justice Dalia Dorner lashed out at the government for not making the payment in an expeditious fashion, stating it is high time to make an effort to correct the moral and ethical mistreatment of the survivors.

Unfortunately, according to a Channel 1 TV News report, the necessary funds will be taken from other unfortunates, including batter women’s shelters, from programs to assist child victims of “assault” and other ‘in-need’ segments of society.

The cabinet explained the cuts were necessary since the ministers felt compelled to remain within the framework of the annual budget.
