President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States is considering selling F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, praising Ankara’s loyalty during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Asked about a possible sale, Trump said the administration has not made a final decision but is actively considering the matter.
“It’s a decision we’re going to make. We have a very good relationship. Many people, including those sitting here, think, ‘Why wouldn’t we do that?'” Trump said.
The president added that Turkey has proven to be “more loyal than other countries” that have purchased the advanced fighter jets.
“We have a better relationship with Turkey, and Turkey has been more loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal. So it’s something we’d consider,” Trump said.
