A senior Israeli lawmaker is calling on the government to permanently bar New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani from entering Israel, accusing him of inciting against the Jewish state and its leaders.

MK Sharren Haskel submitted an urgent request Monday to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the foreign and interior ministers asking that Mamdani be declared persona non grata and prohibited from entering the country.

Haskel, who until last week served as Israel’s deputy foreign minister, said Mamdani has gone beyond legitimate criticism by calling for Netanyahu’s arrest during a future visit to the United Nations and promoting boycotts against Israeli institutions.

According to Haskel, Mamdani’s actions undermine Israel’s security, harm Jewish communities around the world, and encourage antisemitism.

In her letter, Haskel urged the government to review intelligence and legal information concerning Mamdani, invoke Israel’s Entry Law to deny him entry, and ensure he receives no official assistance or access while working against the State of Israel.

“Israel is a democracy that cherishes free speech,” Haskel said. “But the state must also protect its foundations, symbols, and leaders. A person who uses international platforms to call for the arrest of Israeli leaders must pay a price. He loses the right to visit here.”

The request comes amid escalating tensions following Mamdani’s recent statements regarding Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israel.
