Syrian authorities announced they have intercepted a shipment of dozens of anti-tank missiles that was allegedly being smuggled through the country to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to Syrian customs officials, the missiles were concealed throughout a vehicle, including beneath the seats and under the hood, before being discovered during an inspection. Authorities released footage showing the seizure.
The interception follows another recent operation in which Syrian officials said they thwarted an attempt to smuggle advanced weapons and missiles across the Iraq-Syria border. Preliminary findings from that investigation indicated the shipment was intended to transit Syrian territory before reaching Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Syrian authorities said the latest seizure is part of an ongoing crackdown on weapons smuggling networks operating across the country’s borders. The investigation remains ongoing.
