A new investigation by Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung alleges that Hamas spent years building a covert terrorist infrastructure across Europe as part of a long-term plan to carry out coordinated attacks against Jewish, Israeli, and Western targets.

According to the report, which cites German security investigators and court documents, Hamas’ military wing established hidden weapons caches, logistical networks, operatives, and sleeper cells in several European countries that could be activated on command by the terror group’s leadership.

German authorities believe Hamas intended to launch coordinated attacks around the second anniversary of the October 7 massacre. The alleged plot was disrupted following intelligence operations, arrests, and raids carried out in multiple European countries.

The investigation says Hamas-linked infrastructure was uncovered in Germany, Austria, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Greece, and Cyprus. Austrian authorities reportedly discovered a weapons cache last year containing five loaded handguns, ten magazines, more than 100 rounds of ammunition, and several explosive devices. Investigators believe Vienna served as a key logistical hub in the network.

A 39-year-old British man was arrested in London in connection with the Austrian weapons cache, while four Hamas operatives were convicted in Germany as part of the same investigation. Authorities also allege that 13 handguns, an AK-47 assault rifle, and more than 900 rounds of ammunition were transported through Denmark, Germany, and Austria.

The report says the findings contradict Hamas’ longstanding claims that its operations are confined to Israel and the Palestinian territories. German prosecutors allege the terror group spent years establishing hidden weapons depots, smuggling routes, and operational infrastructure across Europe, with preparations beginning well before the October 7, 2023, massacre.
