OpenAI is expanding its presence in Israel with the establishment of its first local commercial team, marking a move focused on business growth rather than the opening of a traditional research and development center.

The new operation will concentrate on business development, client management and sales infrastructure tailored to the Israeli market.

To lead the expansion, OpenAI has recruited a former Amazon Web Services executive who previously managed AWS startup operations in Israel.

The company is operating from its regional office in London while building a dedicated presence for the Israeli market. The move is aimed at strengthening ties with local companies and supporting OpenAI’s growing commercial activity in the country.

Israel has emerged as a major center for artificial intelligence, with a dense concentration of generative AI companies and technical talent. The country is also home to thousands of early-stage startups developing applications and products using large language models.

OpenAI’s decision to establish a local commercial team reflects its effort to deepen engagement with Israeli businesses and expand its customer base in one of the world’s most active technology markets.
