The Gaza Interior Ministry confirmed Thursday that Gaza District Police Chief Jamal Mahmoud Abu Kamil was eliminated in an Israeli strike on his vehicle in the Gaza Strip.

Footage from the scene showed the vehicle engulfed in flames following the strike.

The elimination came as the IDF carried out another targeted strike earlier in the day in Khan Yunis, where a company commander in Hamas’s military wing was attacked from the air. According to the IDF, the terrorist had been planning attacks against Israeli troops operating inside the Gaza Strip.

The military said the strike was carried out in order to remove the threat to IDF forces. Before the attack, the IDF said it took steps to reduce the risk of harm to others in the area, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.

The two strikes marked separate targeted operations against senior Hamas-linked figures in Gaza on Thursday.
