Travelers heading to Uman for Rosh Hashanah 5787 will be able to pay a reduced tourist tax of $27 if they make the payment in advance, instead of the $45 fee that will be charged upon arrival.
The arrangement was reached between Ichud Breslov in Uman and the Uman municipality ahead of the expected arrival of tens of thousands of Breslover chassidim traveling to the tziyun of Rav Nachman of Breslov for Rosh Hashanah.
Ukraine’s tourist tax is required under local law, and in recent years Uman authorities have stepped up enforcement and collection of the fee from visitors arriving during Rosh Hashanah.
Under this year’s agreement, the municipality also committed to facilitating orderly access to the Jewish area from the Pushkina-Sadova intersection and the Pushkina-Bilinsky intersection near the bus station.
Municipal officials also pledged to make efforts to prevent lengthy delays and congestion at checkpoints during the busy Rosh Hashanah period.
While travelers paying the tax upon entering Uman will be charged $45, those who arrange payment ahead of time will pay just $27. Ichud Breslov is urging travelers to make the payment before arriving in Uman to save money and help streamline entry into the area.
