An Israeli Home Front Command delegation is carrying out major search-and-rescue operations in Colombia following the devastating earthquake that left nearly 300 people dead and approximately 13,000 homes destroyed.
The “Bridging Worlds” delegation arrived in Colombia 96 hours after the disaster and is the largest foreign aid delegation to reach the country.
Israeli forces are operating at three of the five major destruction sites in Cali, working alongside local rescue teams and volunteers to locate and rescue people still missing beneath the rubble.
The experience gained by the Israeli delegation during earthquake rescue operations in Venezuela approximately three weeks ago is now being used to assist the efforts in Colombia.
Alongside the search-and-rescue mission, Israeli engineers are leading efforts to map and assess damaged buildings together with Colombian and international teams, determining which structures can safely be returned to use.
The delegation is also providing Colombian authorities with expertise and technological tools to manage the disaster response, establish priorities and support decision-making, while working closely with municipal officials and government ministers.
