HaGaon HaRav Moshe Tzadka strongly condemned the draft decree, saying that if IDF soldiers understood the koach of Torah, they would enter yeshivos and plead with yeshiva bochurim to continue learning.
Speaking at a Siyum HaShas held at Yeshivas Lev Eliyahu in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo, HaRav Tzadka said, “They should make a law that anyone who doesn’t come to the yeshivos should go to prison. If we want to be saved from our enemies, we need to learn Torah. The fools today say, ‘Whoever is in yeshivah — prison.’ Fools! It should be exactly the opposite. They should make a law that everyone has to go to the yeshivos. Everyone.”
“We are living in the period of Chevlei Moshiach, and the only way to be saved from Chevlei Moshiach is through learning Torah, as they are doing here at Yeshivas Lev Eliyahu, completing Shas. They should be saying, ‘Rabbosai, in light of the situation, everyone should go to the yeshivos. No one should be out in the streets.’”
HaGaon HaRav Tzadka continued: “If the soldiers knew what saves them, if they understood the koach of Torah, they would walk into the yeshivos in the middle of seder and plead with the bochurim: ‘Have mercy on us, have mercy. Don’t stop learning for even a moment.’ That is what they should be doing.”

I read in an old sefer – if the czar knew the value of Torah, he would put a soldier with a bayonet near every Yid.

and every time the Yid gets distracted – the soldier would prick him with the bayonet !!
same here – maybe IDF can come and make sure bochrim are learnen. And bochrim behave in a way that soldiers would want to learn themselves!
If the Rabbi understood the כח רע of the medina and it’s military, they would beg them never to disturb or associate as one

Torah learning is vital. But working out a program where the 18-19 year olds learn and the 24-25 year olds serve will not cause any takala.
The roshei yeshiva subscribe to all or nothing.
I personally witnessed a group of soldiers at a chance meeting with a group of real yeshiva bochurim during the Oct.7th war with Hamas and they thanked and begged the bochurim to jeep learning because their הצלחה, they said, is a direct result of their learning. I will never forget that emotional encounter.
