Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee chairman MK Simcha Rothman sharply attacked Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and the Supreme Court on Wednesday over the ongoing battle surrounding the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the failures surrounding October 7 and the war.
Speaking in an interview with Kan News, Rothman said it was a “disgrace” that the attorney general and the Supreme Court were preventing the government from establishing the type of investigative commission it believes should examine those failures — one whose members would not be appointed by a Supreme Court justice.
“The Supreme Court itself also needs to be investigated,” Rothman said. “It cannot be that Yitzhak Amit appoints the investigators who will investigate him.”
Rothman also launched a fierce attack on Baharav-Miara over her representation of the government, saying the government is entitled to legal advice and representation and accusing the attorney general of using public funds while advancing a position contrary to the government’s.
“The government has a right and an obligation to legal advice and representation,” Rothman said. “Gali Baharav-Miara sits there and takes public money from you and me. She is paid to do her job, and her job is to represent the government, but she is simply taking that money and representing a different position.”
The dispute centers on who should appoint the members of the commission and whether the judiciary itself should be among the institutions examined as part of the investigation.
