Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi launched an extraordinary personal attack against President Donald Trump on Friday, effectively suggesting that the American president is suffering from schizophrenia, hallucinations and delusions — and should be placed under 24-hour supervision and treatment.

The attack came after Trump shared an image overnight on Truth Social depicting the Strait of Hormuz as among U.S. territories, continuing his provocative assertions that the strategically critical waterway is effectively under American control.

Gharibabadi responded on X by describing the symptoms of schizophrenia in unmistakable terms aimed at Trump.

“Schizophrenia is a complex and acute psychotic disorder that manifests with disturbances in thinking and a distorted perception of reality,” Gharibabadi wrote.

“Its most common symptom is also hallucinations and delusions. Psychologists recommend that such patients should be under 24-hour supervision and receive treatment,” he added.

The Iranian official did not explicitly write the words “Trump is schizophrenic,” but his post was a direct response to Trump’s Strait of Hormuz declaration and was widely understood as accusing the president of suffering from the psychiatric disorder and requiring constant medical supervision.

Trump last week declared that he views the “Strait of Hormuz as an American territory right now.”

“We control it with the blockade, and I like the idea of declaring it a territory,” Trump separately told reporters.

Gharibabadi had previously accused Trump of suffering from “fanciful delusions” over the issue, insisting that the Strait “has been Iranian, is Iranian, and will remain Iranian.”
