Israel’s Airports Authority is preparing for an exceptionally busy September, with more than 3 million passengers expected to pass through the country’s airports and land crossings during the Tishrei Yom Tov season. Ben Gurion Airport alone is projected to handle approximately 2.5 million passengers.

The busiest days at Ben Gurion are expected to be September 10, 17, 22 and 25, with roughly 100,000 passengers and 600 flights on each of the peak travel days. More than 100,000 international passengers are expected on September 10, Erev Rosh Hashanah.

The annual travel rush to Uman will contribute to the congestion, with dedicated flights scheduled from September 6 through September 17. Greece, Cyprus, the United States, Italy and the United Arab Emirates are expected to be among the most popular destinations during the Yom Tov season.

Ramon Airport is expected to handle approximately 81,000 passengers and Haifa Airport another 60,000, while roughly 500,000 people are projected to travel through Israel’s land crossings with Jordan and Egypt.

The Airports Authority has increased staffing at terminals ahead of the rush and is urging passengers to check their departure terminal in advance, complete online check-in when possible and use self-service baggage stations to help reduce delays.

Reservists and security personnel were also reminded to carefully inspect their luggage before arriving at the airport to ensure that no ammunition or ammunition components are accidentally left inside their bags.
