A senior figure in former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party has outlined a sweeping economic plan that would strip significant government benefits from Chareidim who do not enlist in the IDF, while providing substantial financial incentives to Israelis who serve.
Inbar Harush Giti, a member of Eisenkot’s party, detailed the proposals during an interview with Channel 13, describing a policy aimed at creating a clear financial distinction between those who serve and those who do not.
Among the most significant measures proposed is eliminating the purchase-tax exemption on a first home for Chareidim considered draft deserters. The value of that benefit can amount to hundreds of thousands of shekels for an individual.
The party’s plan would also target several other forms of government assistance, including daycare subsidies, municipal property-tax discounts and National Insurance benefits.
Harush Giti made clear that the financial consequences are an intentional part of the proposal: those who do not enlist would stand to lose substantial sums of money, while Israelis who serve would receive a broad package of benefits from the government.
The proposals were presented as part of the economic agenda Yashar intends to advance if it enters Israel’s next government.
