Iran’s worsening economic crisis is reportedly beginning to penetrate the ranks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, with some members leaving the force because their salaries are no longer enough to cover basic living expenses.

According to a source inside Iran with close ties to the IRGC who spoke to Channel 14, soldiers and security personnel are struggling to support themselves as inflation, sanctions and a severe shortage of foreign currency continue to hammer the Iranian economy.

The source claimed that some IRGC members have already left Iran for Russia, while others have departed for additional countries. Others are reportedly abandoning their positions inside the terror organization because their salaries can no longer keep pace with the rapidly rising cost of living.

The development could represent a significant new challenge for the Iranian regime, which relies heavily on the IRGC and other security forces to maintain its grip on power.

Iran’s purchasing power has deteriorated sharply as its currency continues losing value and prices for basic necessities soar. According to the report, the price of chicken alone has increased three- to fourfold over the past year.

The economic pressure comes amid severe U.S. sanctions and President Donald Trump’s campaign to economically isolate Tehran. The report suggests that continued pressure could transform Iran’s economic crisis from one primarily affecting ordinary citizens into a direct threat to the stability of the regime itself.

If members of the IRGC increasingly conclude that the government can no longer provide them with a viable livelihood, the economic turmoil could begin weakening one of the most important pillars supporting the Islamic Republic.
