Iran escalated its threats against the United States on Wednesday, warning that its new military and economic strategy would “shatter” America while separately declaring that passage through the Strait of Hormuz could be conditioned on the payment of war reparations.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, issued the threat following the latest U.S. strikes against Iranian targets.
Rezaei said Iran is preparing a new strategy encompassing the battlefield, diplomacy and efforts to counter the U.S.-led economic pressure campaign, warning that it would “shatter” the foundations of its enemies.
Meanwhile, Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, said countries and other parties that caused damage to Iran during the war would be required to reach an agreement with Tehran on compensation before receiving passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Ghashghavi cited Article 7 of Iran’s “Smart Management of the Strait of Hormuz” law, which he said requires countries, organizations and individuals responsible for wartime damage to establish a mechanism for paying compensation.
The threats came as the IRGC announced that two oil tankers had struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday.
The IRGC also claimed that Iranian forces carried out attacks against U.S. assets in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Iraq as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.
