U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee issued a sharp warning Friday over acts of violence by Jewish extremists in Yehuda and Shomron, again describing those responsible as “terrorists” and warning that their actions are causing serious damage to Israel’s standing in the United States.
Speaking in an interview with Kan Reshet Bet, Huckabee said the incidents are harming the image of Israel as both a country and a people at a time when Israel needs as many friends as possible.
His comments came after Israelis who allegedly set fire to a mosque in the Shomron village of Bazariya spray-painted a message on the wall reading, “Huckabee, regards from the terrorists.”
Huckabee said he was not personally frightened by the graffiti but stressed that the broader issue is serious and is causing deep damage to Israel’s image, including among Republicans in the United States. He expressed particular concern about the impact such incidents could have on younger Americans who hear about them.
It was not the first time Huckabee used the term “terrorists” to describe Jewish extremists. Last month, he referred to Jewish rioters who surrounded residents in the Palestinian village of Qusra as “Israeli terrorists.”
Huckabee also addressed the ongoing confrontation with Iran, saying the Islamic Republic has been left in an extraordinarily weakened military and economic position as a result of President Donald Trump’s actions.
He rejected claims that Trump is setting aside Iran’s nuclear threat to focus solely on the Strait of Hormuz, saying the president has never suggested that he would ignore Tehran’s longstanding threats against the United States.
Huckabee noted that Iran has spent approximately 47 and a half years threatening “death to America,” stressing that such a threat is not something the United States can simply ignore.
