Hezbollah Threat Forces Lebanese Foreign Minister Away From Beirut Office

Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji (Asharq Al-Awsat)

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji, a member of the anti‑Hezbollah Christian Lebanese Forces party, has stopped going to his office in central Beirut after receiving serious security warnings, Kan News reported Sunday morning.

A political source close to Rajji said there are credible fears that Hezbollah may try to target him because of his outspoken positions against the organization and his earlier attempt to expel the Iranian ambassador. The concern is heightened by the fact that the Foreign Ministry is located in an area where Hezbollah enjoys significant freedom of movement.

The threat has also prompted the Christian Lebanese Forces party to adopt unusual emergency precautions at its public events.

The party’s annual ceremony honoring members killed during Lebanon’s civil war was originally planned as an outdoor gathering in the Christian town of Maarab, north of Beirut, with the full senior leadership present. In a rare move, the event was shifted indoors due to fears Hezbollah could carry out a drone attack.

The heightened security concerns come as Hezbollah itself acknowledges the increasingly difficult position it faces. Hezbollah MP Hassan Ezzeddine admitted in a recent speech that the terror group is in a state of crisis and will struggle to return to the position it held in 2023.

Ezzeddine also accused Lebanon’s government of creating instability and anarchy, saying it has lost the credibility and legitimacy needed to serve as the country’s leading authority.
