President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning to Iran over the weekend, saying the United States will soon strike the Islamic Republic’s heavily fortified underground nuclear complex known as “Pickaxe Mountain,” or Kuh-e Kolang.
The massive subterranean facility is located near Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment complex and was excavated deep into granite rock. It was developed as a protected site for centrifuge manufacturing and assembly after an above-ground facility was destroyed in a mysterious explosion in 2020.
Trump said the United States is closely monitoring activity throughout Iran and reiterated that Washington will not allow Tehran to achieve a nuclear weapons breakout capability.
The president also played down descriptions of the ongoing confrontation as a full-scale war, instead describing it as a targeted “military skirmish” with relatively low casualties compared to major U.S. wars of the past.
According to the report, the underground nuclear facility is under continuous surveillance by U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies.
Trump’s warning comes amid continued U.S.-Iran military escalation, including American strikes over the weekend against Iranian oil tankers operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
