Two IDF soldiers were lightly wounded Monday after a Hezbollah terrorist opened fire on troops operating in the Beaufort area of southern Lebanon.
According to the IDF, soldiers from the Golani Reconnaissance Unit were conducting searches in the area when a Hezbollah terrorist hiding inside a building suddenly opened fire at the force. The soldiers immediately returned fire and eliminated the terrorist.
Two soldiers were lightly wounded in the exchange and evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment. Their families were notified.
Following the attack, IDF forces fired artillery shells toward the location where the terrorist had been hiding. The IDF also expanded its strikes in the area, targeting Hezbollah weapons storage facilities, command centers and additional terrorist infrastructure.
The IDF said the strikes were carried out in response to the attempted attack on its forces and vowed to continue operating against Hezbollah threats in southern Lebanon.
“The IDF will not allow the Hezbollah terrorist organization to harm the citizens of the State of Israel or its forces, and will continue operating to remove threats while remaining committed to the ceasefire agreement,” the military said.
