David Malul, a Border Police officer convicted of accepting bribes to allow Palestinians to cross a security checkpoint without inspection and selling weapons, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.
Malul pleaded guilty to charges filed by the Police Internal Investigations Department.
According to the indictment, while serving at the Ras Bidu checkpoint, Malul established contact with Palestinians and agreed to allow local residents who did not have entry permits to cross without inspection in exchange for payment.
Malul received approximately 25,000 shekels for facilitating the illegal crossings.
He also admitted to taking two police stun grenades and selling them to a Palestinian.
The court strongly criticized Malul’s actions, stating that he acted “with full awareness of the security risk to the State of Israel and its residents, and with contempt and indifference toward the danger caused by his actions.”
The court further noted that Malul continued his conduct even after a deadly terror attack took place at the Ramot Junction in September 2025.
“He continued despite fearing that he himself had enabled the terrorists to pass through the checkpoint,” the court said.
Malul was convicted of accepting bribes, fraud and breach of trust, and weapons trafficking.
Three additional Border Police officers were also convicted in connection with the case. Their sentences will be handed down at a later date.
