The Gaza Division’s intelligence officer on October 7, Lieutenant Colonel A., is expected to petition the Supreme Court in an effort to prevent the publication of his full name and the disclosure of a petition detailing his account of the failures surrounding the massacre.

According to Army Radio, Lieutenant Colonel A. is simultaneously fighting the IDF’s decision to dismiss him. He is the only officer whom the IDF Chief of Staff decided to dismiss over the events of October 7, but he continues to serve in the military and has refused to retire as required.

The separate legal proceeding concerns a District Court ruling that permitted the publication of his full name and the petition he filed.

In the petition, Lieutenant Colonel A. presents his version of the events and failures surrounding October 7, which he was involved in by virtue of his position as the Gaza Division’s intelligence officer.

The IDF told the court that there was no security impediment to publishing the former intelligence officer’s name. The court accepted that position and permitted publication, but granted him a stay allowing him to appeal to the Supreme Court before the decision takes effect.

The District Court ruled that this was “a clear case in which the public interest outweighs every other consideration or interest,” and determined that his name and identifying details should be published.

Lieutenant Colonel A. completed his role as the Gaza Division’s intelligence officer approximately two years ago, but continues to serve in the IDF and has not yet been formally dismissed.

According to Army Radio, he continues to receive a military salary and vehicle while his identity remains under a publication ban.

Most of the other intelligence officers dismissed from the IDF have already ended their service and had their full names published.

Lieutenant Colonel A., however, continues his legal battle to remain in the military while simultaneously seeking to prevent the disclosure of his identity and the details of his account of the October 7 failures.
