ROSH HASHANAH DRAMA: Modzitzer Rebbe Hospitalized With Heart Weakness, Leaves Hospital To Lead Tefillos

Concern spread through the Modzitz chassidus over Rosh Hashanah after the Modzitzer Rebbe experienced severe weakness related to his heart on the first night of Yom Tov and was rushed to the hospital.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the Rebbe’s residence, where they administered initial treatment and recommended that he be transported to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer because of its specialized cardiac services operating over Yom Tov.

The Rebbe, however, requested that he instead be taken to Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak, where he was admitted for treatment and observation.

The following morning, despite his hospitalization, the Rebbe expressed his determination to leave the hospital and return to the new Modzitz Beis Medrash to serve as the baal tefillah for the Rosh Hashanah davening, continuing the longstanding minhag of the Modzitzer Rebbes.

Hospital officials offered to make the hospital’s own Beis Medrash available for the Rebbe and his chassidim, hoping to spare him the physical exertion of leaving the facility. The Rebbe declined, noting that his Beis Medrash was only about a ten-minute walk away.

The Rebbe ultimately left the hospital on Rosh Hashanah morning and walked to the Beis Medrash. Remarkably, despite his condition, he went on to serve as the baal tefillah for Shacharis and Mussaf on both days of Rosh Hashanah.

Chassidim are asking the public to continue davening for the Rebbe’s complete recovery.

His name for Tehillim is Chaim Shaul ben Beila Rochel, b’soch sha’ar cholei Yisroel.
