A serious security case was revealed Monday evening involving a 19-year-old resident of Kafr Qasim who performed National Service as a firefighter and is suspected of planning a series of terrorist attacks, attempting to establish a terrorist cell, and making contact with Hamas operatives and an individual associated with Iranian intelligence, i24NEWS reports.
The suspect was arrested approximately one month ago in a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and the Sharon District Central Unit. Investigators believe that at least one of the attacks he planned was intended to target a strategic site that he had accessed through his work as a firefighter at a station in central Israel.
According to investigators, the suspect allegedly identified the strategic location as a potential target and exploited the access and familiarity he gained through his National Service position to advance the plot. The investigation found that he had begun taking an interest in terrorism at the age of 16 and allegedly underwent significant radicalization following the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
Investigators allege that the suspect established contact with Hamas operatives as well as an individual associated with Iranian intelligence. He also searched for combat manuals, downloaded instructions for manufacturing explosive devices, and allegedly attempted to construct explosives using various materials.
The investigation further found that the 19-year-old allegedly attempted to establish a terrorist cell and recruit two acquaintances from Kafr Qasim. Both were arrested and held for approximately two weeks, but investigators have not yet developed sufficient evidence to file indictments against them.
During a raid on the primary suspect’s home by the Shin Bet and Border Police, authorities seized airsoft weapons and a large quantity of training equipment. After approximately one month in custody, prosecutors are expected to file an indictment against him on Tuesday.
