Candidates for the chairmanship of Keren Hayesod claim they received an unusual request involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son, Yair Netanyahu, according to a report Monday by Israel’s Channel 13.
The candidates alleged that requests were made by both Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu, concerning Yair’s financial interests.
According to the report, the candidates said they were asked to “arrange paid lectures for Yair Netanyahu.”
They further alleged that Sara Netanyahu asked them to halt speaking appearances by political rivals.
The claims come amid turmoil at Keren Hayesod. Eli Hazan, who assumed the position of chairman less than two weeks ago, has resigned from the post against the backdrop of the controversy.
The Likud categorically denied the Channel 13 report, calling the allegations entirely fabricated.
“Complete lie! Mrs. Netanyahu did not interfere in the appointment, in speeches, or in any other matter at Keren Hayesod. These are baseless smears and part of the campaign of persecution against Netanyahu,” Likud said in response.
