The IDF has dramatically changed how it plans to respond during the first hour of a major surprise attack, incorporating lessons from the October 7 massacre into a new defensive doctrine.
Under the revised approach, the Israeli Air Force will no longer wait for ground forces to formally request assistance during a mass infiltration. Instead, aircraft are prepared to immediately deploy in large numbers and unleash heavy fire against invading forces, Ynet reported Tuesday.
Recent IDF exercises have simulated simultaneous ground incursions, attacks from the sea, UAV threats and massive rocket fire. The military is also preparing to strike enemy command centers deep inside hostile territory from the opening stages of an attack.
The changes are intended to prevent a repeat of October 7, when the military’s response was overwhelmed as Hamas terrorists breached the Gaza border at numerous points simultaneously and invaded Israeli areas.
